Welcome to my travel diary for South India, which Carol and I visited in February and March of 2024.
Thanks to Covid-19, it had been four years since we’d been able to have a proper trip overseas, and to say I was looking forward to it is an incredible understatement. So we decided to stick to our original plan and head to India – the south, since I’d been to the north in 1998. Apart from some brief business trips, it was Carol’s first experience of travel in the country.
India was probably the toughest trip I’d ever done, and I was hoping things would be easier this time around, as South India is a bit more laid back and I have more of a budget these days to stay in nicer places and take easier travel options. But it turned out to still be pretty challenging to my health and patience just the same. It’s a fascinating and amazing place – but it’s not for the faint-hearted!
How to navigate this diary
The South India link at the top of the page in the main menu takes you to the main South India page where you can access all the days of this diary. Alternatively, start reading here (or anywhere, for that matter) and use the Previous and Next links at the bottom of each page to navigate through the days. You can always keep track by looking at the date.
When you’re reading a page, you’ll see blocks of photo thumbnails (wait a little while for all of these to load onto the page). You can roll over a thumbnail to read the photo’s caption. I’ve also added the occasional video.
To see full-size versions of these photos (highly recommended, as the thumbnails are cropped), click on a thumbnail. Once the image is blown up, you can navigate left and right through the full size images, or click the X in the top right hand corner to exit them and go back to the text.
Leave a comment at the bottom of any page if you feel like it.
Chiyars!
